Tactical EMS

Sunstar EMS provides the Pinellas County Sheriff Office SWAT team with
specially trained Paramedics to assist the deputies in the performance of their duties.
These Sunstar team members attend all SWAT training and perform alongside regular deputies
while on emergency call outs.
The Team is currently made up of 13 paramedics with street experience ranging
from two to seventeen years. After being selected for the team, each member is required to
complete a Basic SWAT class. Each month, team members attend eight hours of tactical training.
Team members attend up to eight hours of weapons training at various range facilities.
In addition to the tactical training, medics also have their own
specialized medical training. Patient assessment in the tactical environment, rapid triage
and treatment of multiple multi-trauma patients and advanced airway. Training for the SWAT deputies in self-help and
assisting our medics is also provided. Tactical medics are responsible for developing
their own special protocols for inclusion in the Pinellas County EMS SOPs.
