The Sunstar paramedics Difference

No matter the time of day, regardless of the weather, nothing stops Sunstar Paramedics  from being there for you and those you care about most when an emergency strikes. Sunstar has been proudly serving the Pinellas County community since 1998 and has been recognized both locally and nationally dozens of times for the outstanding level of care our highly skilled team of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics provide.

Our work is not complete once a patient is safely transported to the most appropriate hospital or urgent care facility. Sunstar follows strict patient care protocols set by our physician medical director, which are based on the most current industry standards and survival data. This means Sunstar first responders have the unique advantage of always having access to guidance from a medical doctor when responding to emergencies.

Sunstar also works closely with each receiving hospital to evaluate patient outcomes for specific emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes and other serious problems. Sunstar then uses this data to continually revise and improve its own treatment protocols and also to identify the closest, most appropriate hospital to take patients to receive the best quality of care.

improving patient care

Hospitals know that Sunstar is 100% patient focused and expects the best treatment for those we serve. That is why we follow up on many of the patients our team transports to the emergency room.  It’s this unique system of checks and balances that has elevated patient care across all health care systems here in Pinellas County. Sunstar works closely with hospitals to reduce emergency room wait times and to help them earn advanced certifications required to specialize in the treatment of heart attacks, strokes or perinatal care, as examples, so that Pinellas County residents will receive the best medical care when they need it most.

The Digital Edge

Before a patient even arrives at the hospital, Sunstar ensures the attending nurses and physicians have critical diagnostic information in hand.  For example, if Sunstar responds to a patient experiencing heart attack symptoms, the paramedic will perform an EKG and electronically send the results to the receiving hospital for review. Using the most advanced electronic equipment ensures that Sunstar is able to remain in constant contact with the attending hospital team that will take over the patient’s care.
