Sunstar team members receive excellence award

February 9, 2015

Sunstar Paramedics paramedic Josh Brumwell and EMT Julia Watson were awarded the 2015 Commissioner Morroni Award of Excellence in EMS at the 20th annual Appreciation Luncheon for Emergency Personnel on January 30, 2015.

Brumwell and Watson received the award for their compassion, respect and kindness for a woman who was depressed and contemplating suicide. Last April, they were driving to get fuel after completing a patient transport when they saw a young woman sitting on the ledge of Interstate 375. She was sitting in an unsafe position near traffic so they stopped to talk with her. She was depressed and considering suicide, but Brumwell and Watson were able to provide her with care and get her medical assistance. The woman is safe because Brumwell and Watson’s desire to go above and beyond their assigned job duties led them to discover she need immediate assistance and allowed them to provide the necessary care.

More than 530 people attended the luncheon to honor Brumwell, Watson and Pinellas County’s emergency personnel.
