Sunstar Paramedics Earns American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Recognition and Target: Heart Attack Distinction

Sunstar Paramedics is proud to announce that we have been awarded Gold Recognition through the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS program, as well as the Mission: Lifeline System of Care Target: Heart Attack Distinction.
These recognitions are among the most respected honors in emergency medical services, recognizing agencies that consistently demonstrate excellence in patient care, clinical performance, and system-wide collaboration.
The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS program recognizes EMS agencies that consistently demonstrate excellence in critical performance measures that directly impact patient outcomes. These measures include rapid recognition of stroke and STEMI, timely acquisition and interpretation of 12-lead ECGs, administration of appropriate medications, documentation of critical patient information, and prompt communication with receiving hospitals.
To achieve Gold Status, agencies must maintain an aggregated annual compliance rate of at least 75% across every required performance measure throughout the reporting year. This accomplishment reflects a sustained commitment to clinical excellence and quality improvement across all aspects of emergency care.
In addition to earning Gold Recognition, Sunstar Paramedics was honored with the Mission Lifeline System of Care Target: Heart Attack Distinction. This prestigious designation recognizes EMS agencies that demonstrate excellence in delivering timely, evidence-based care to patients experiencing acute cardiac emergencies.
This distinction reflects the strength of our integrated system of care, where EMS clinicians, emergency physicians, cardiac catheterization teams, and hospital partners work together to ensure rapid access to lifesaving treatment. Through early recognition, prompt intervention, and seamless coordination, this achievement highlights our commitment to improving patient outcomes and increasing survival rates.
What makes this achievement especially meaningful is the scale of the work behind it. More than 5,000 EMS patient encounters contributed to the performance data used in the evaluation process. Each call represents a patient, a family, and a dedicated team of healthcare professionals working together to provide the highest level of care possible.
This recognition is a testament to the professionalism, dedication, and clinical excellence demonstrated daily by our field clinicians, Communications Center personnel, leadership team, quality improvement staff, educators, and hospital partners throughout Pinellas County. Their commitment to continuous improvement ensures that our community receives the highest standard of emergency medical care when they need it most.
As we celebrate this achievement, we remain focused on our mission of providing compassionate, evidence-based care and continually improving outcomes for the patients and communities we serve. We extend our sincere gratitude to every member of the Sunstar team and our healthcare partners whose dedication made this accomplishment possible. Together, we are helping save lives and strengthening the chain of survival throughout our community.
