Young patient meets his “life savers”

July 17, 2015

In April, Sunstar Paramedics EMT Nicole Clemente, and paramedics Robin Richardson and Jason Sutton responded to a 9-1-1 call for a young patient who had a severe, whole-body and life-threatening allergic reaction. The crew quickly took steps to keep the patient from progressing into cardiac or respiratory arrest.

The Sunstar Paramedics team knew his symptoms were getting worse by the second and they needed to act quickly. They used medications to stabilize the patient while en route to the hospital. After receiving treatment at the hospital, the patient needed a second transport to All Children’s Hospital. Sunstar Paramedics EMT Rick Washington drove the critical care ambulance to All Children’s Hospital and comforted the patient’s mother during the transport.

The crew knew the patient would need to spend several days in the hospital to heal, and they bought gifts to provide comfort during his hospital stay.

On June 20, the patient and his family came to Sunstar’s North Hub to meet the team that he calls his “life savers.” He made a full recovery and his mother credits the Sunstar Paramedics team with saving his life.
