Sunstar Paramedic Richard Romanek honored by Florida Association of EMS Educators

Sunstar Paramedics’ Richard Romanek recognized as 2017 EMS Preceptor of the Year.

LARGO, Fla. (July 25, 2017) –

Sunstar Paramedic Richard Romanek was the recipient of the 2017 Florida Association of EMS Educators, “Preceptor of the Year Award”.

Richard started his career with Sunstar in 2012 and advanced quickly to a preceptor position. He became an Field Training Officer in 2015 and most recently was selected to be a Safety Officer for the organization.

Paramedic Romanek went through a vigorous qualifying process to become a  college preceptor, which takes approximately three months. The candidate must then pass a final review and interview with the Medical Directors for St. Petersburg College and Pinellas County Emergency Medical Services.

Richard is a well-respected paramedic in the Pinellas County and has many commendations in his file from his patients as well as local fire departments, nursing homes and the Sheriff’s Office. His patients describe him in their letters as kind, comforting, caring, empathetic and professional.

At Sunstar, Paramedic Romanek puts in the most hours of any  preceptors for St. Petersburg College. He is well known and has the greatest amount of requests by their students.

St. Petersburg College’s Rebecca Ludwig states: “Richard Romanek is one of our best preceptors and certainly the most sought out preceptor with Sunstar.  He is very student centered and a tremendous asset to our program”.

Paramedic Romanek is a first generation American who holds his Associates Degree in EMS and is a Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor. He has been married to his wife Holly for three years and has two children ages three and five.
