Crash survivor meets Sunstar Paramedics first responders who saved him

May 24, 2019

On May 22, 2019, Elijah Alexander met the first responders from Sunstar Paramedics and Clearwater Fire & Rescue who helped save his life after a motorcycle crash in Clearwater.

Alexander was driving his motorcycle through the intersection of Gulf to Bay Boulevard and Belcher Road on May 1, 2018 when he was hit by a car that ran a red light. Sunstar Paramedics and Clearwater Fire and Rescue quickly arrived at the accident scene, stabilized him and transported him to Bayfront Hospital. He underwent face, hands and wrist surgery, and spent 24 days recovering at the hospital before being transferred to a rehabilitation center.

Alexander has spent the past year in rehab to relearn how to walk and talk.

“I literally get goosebumps just seeing him and seeing that he’s here and he’s alive and he still has a life and we did that,” said Stefanie Mullins, an EMT for Sunstar Paramedics who was one of the first on the scene that day in a Bay News 9 article.

The story was also featured on Fox and CBS news.
