Sunstar Paramedics is proud to have earned the Advanced Perinatal Ready Recognition, reflecting years of dedication, collaboration, education, and a shared commitment to improving emergency care for pregnant, postpartum, and newborn patients.
Perinatal education and readiness have become a significant focus of the Sunstar Clinical Education Department. After identifying gaps in maternal and neonatal emergency preparedness, both within EMS systems and nationally, our team made a deliberate commitment to strengthening readiness in this critical area of care. Obstetrical and neonatal emergencies are often high-risk, low-frequency events, and the decisions made during the first critical minutes can have a profound impact on both patients.
Sunstar developed a comprehensive approach centered on education, hands-on training, quality improvement, and collaboration. Clinicians have received extensive training in routine and complicated deliveries, postpartum hemorrhage, hypertensive emergencies, neonatal assessment, and safe newborn transport.
Through collaboration with hospital and community partners, our clinicians have also participated in high-fidelity simulations designed to strengthen clinical decision-making, communication, and coordination across the continuum of care—from the prehospital environment through hospital arrival.
These educational efforts are supported by a comprehensive quality improvement process. Significant peripartum and neonatal cases are reviewed to identify trends, reinforce best practices, guide future education, and support ongoing system improvement.
This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our entire team – including the clinicians, the educators, our quality and leadership teams, the Office of the Medical Director, and our valued healthcare partners. We are incredibly proud to earn the Advanced Perinatal Ready Recognition and view this achievement as an important milestone rather than a finish line. Sunstar Paramedics remains committed to advancing maternal and newborn emergency preparedness and ensuring our clinicians are ready to provide exceptional care when these critical moments occur.
